Symposium Seabirds will be working this season
August 17-20, 2017: Ladies of the Lake sea kayak symposium for women only in Michigan, http://downwindsports.com/lol/
Paddle Bike Run, http://www.bflopaddlebikerun.com/registration.html – A great event held at Silo City, join in the fun or just come by and see what’s happening during the Expo day July 29th. Seabirds will have boats to try and resources to share from the Safer Boating Council. Sunday July 30th we’ll be on the water covering safety for the paddle race.
Gallagher Beach – North side, 10am-1pm
Partnership project with the NYState Parks, the Coast guard and Seabirds with resources to give away from the Grassroots program with the Safer boating council. Tabletop rescue equipment demonstrations followed by on the water rescues. This is a free event for everyone 😉 On Sundays – June 18th, July 2nd, August 13th

Adventure training trips
POSTPONED UNTIL 2018 – please register your interest for September 14-17: ADK Women’s only Kayak Skills weekend, we’ll be working on Level 2 & Level 3 skills whilst enjoying a beautiful setting with our own private launch access. Food will be sourced locally from organic farms. ‘Pamper activities’ for ‘off the water’ time can also be arranged for additional cost. NDK sea kayaks are available to rent for this event at an additional $125.
Cost for the weekend and training: $750.00, 4 days to include training, 4 evening meals and comfortable accommodations in beds at authentic Northpoint Camp at the edge of 6 million protected acres of Adirondack forest. Wifi. https://adirondackfamilycamp.
Want to keep your skills up and practice rescues when the lake is frozen and it’s just to cold outside to paddle? Want to experience kayaking before hitting the water? Pool sessions are the answer! Each session is tailored to meet your paddling needs be it stroke refinement, rescues or adaptive paddling. Contact Andrea to arrange your session, no more than two participants on these sessions to allow for quality learning.
Starting in November 2016, pool sessions are offered throughout the year. Two weeks notice required to book the pool for private sessions.
Cost: $45 includes your day membership to the facility. Arrive earlier than the session to use the gym, swim or just explore.
Beyond BOW & Seabirds Kayaking

Reduced rate: $40 for two hours ($90 value)
WOMEN’S WEDNESDAYS SKILL SESSIONS, 5:30 – 7:30pm
Quality instruction to suit your needs. Minimum boat size 12 feet.
Level 1 skills* June 21st: 18 Mile Creek and Lake Erie
Level 2 skills** July 26: Sunset Bay & Cattaragus Creek, Irving, NY
Level 3 skills*** August 9: Gallagher Beach, Buffalo
Wednesday sessions are offered at a reduced rate of $45 for two hours, a portion of which goes to the DEC BOW program.
Time: 5:30 – 7:30 pm. Venue subject to change depending on weather. Boats available to rent for $25.00.
*Beginner – New to kayaking and want to learn.
**Advanced beginner – Some formal instruction, can forward paddle, steer the kayak, move sideways and prevent capsize in flat water. Can paddle 3-5 miles in a sheltered environment.
***Intermediate – Can perform all of the desired skills of an advanced beginner, can paddle backwards and maintain a course in wind. Can self-rescue and peer rescue in flat water and can paddle 6-8 miles in protected environment.

Kayak Advanced Skills and Training
Ever wanted to turn in wind? Interested in learning how to land and launch through surf? Keen to wow your friends with your paddling skills? This is the course for you. Boats must be a minimum of 13 feet for this course and all participants will receive an ACA Participation card. Book early to avoid disappointment, as these are small classes designed to enhance your learning experience.

Kayak Safety and Rescue Clinics
Do you paddle alone? Are you able to get back into your boat unassisted? Do you paddle with friends? Have you practiced rescuing each other? Do you know how to swim with your boat in the event you aren’t able to ‘self rescue’? If you are new to kayak safety then this is a course for you!
Offered for the first time in 2015 and again in 2016 these clinics are back by popular demand.
You will gain confidence in your rescue techniques as we learn:
- Wet exits and cowboy rescue- aka self rescue
- T, assisted rescues, scoop and heel hook
- Contact tow, towing with towlines, boat over boat rescues
- How to swim with our boats and back deck rescues
This course is designed for people with basic paddling skills* (can paddle forward, backward and side to side).

*If you are interested in developing your paddling skills or improving on existing skills and learning new techniques you can arrange private sessions. 2016 Adaptive Paddling Workshop was a huge success!
Congratulations to an inspiring group of Adaptive Paddling Instructors and volunteers!!! This two and a half day training even was made possible by a number of dedicated individuals and organizations who are working with us to grow Adaptive Paddling in Western New York.
